New Pope. No reform here then.....

It looks as if any possibility of the RC Church being updated to relate to the world has just gone up the chimney.
I would suggest that will increase the gulf between the world's religions and increase the likelihood of further world conflict. It worsens the Aids situation where JPII failed, he is outspoken in his anti-"women in the Church" view. No cleaning up of the skeletons. This is total disaster.

On that matter, the Catholic teaching on sexual relationships is for celebacy outside of marriage. So there is no problem with respect to AIDs and the teachings on contreception, the problem is when you start using the pick and choose approach to the Church's teaching.
Doesn't eliminate the issue that obviously a lot of people who were not really interested in completely following the Church's teaching made a pretty bad choice of what bits they where going to ignore and that if the church had changed their position it could have had some impact in reducing the spread of AIDs. However, from a theoloigcal perspective that's a pretty flaky reason to change church policy, could even go so far as to suggest it is analogous it to having the police force encouraging the use of radar detectors to avoid getting caught speeding.

I would suggest your last posting is the best example of trolling here.
What I said is perfectly true.
The new Pope will continue the JP2 line but he is unlikely to go beyond a decade.
The chances are by then, the Cardinals will elect a more "Liberal" Pope.
The reality of life is that the Popes preachings on condoms, have hardly any effect on Aids at all. If someone wants sex, they will use or not use condoms as they see fit and the Pope is unlikely to have any influence on that at all.

Mick

Fair points, but maybe the role of the church is all wrong anyway. I wouldn't have imagined Jesus sitting in a private palace in a private city issuing policies for people to adhere to. He would have been out there living among them in a very modest way getting his message across by his relationship with his people. I can see nothing coming from the Vatican that Jesus would have been comfortable with. The Vatican is probably just the sort of institution that Jesus would have smashed up.
But what do I know? Just my personal take you understand.

Sounds like your own personal Jesus to me mate !

You have to admit it would work better than dishing out condoms that none of them will use.

Presumably, "them" = "Not Us". There is a lot of them.

A-greed. The RC Church would just have to crucify Jesus all over again. The absolute worst scenario for the RCs is the return of another Jesus. Fortunately they have very little to worry about.
What is missing from the argument about sex and aids is that many hundreds of millions of women worldwide have no choice in their sexual partner, or when or how.
The Danish Government has finally stopped wasting taxpayers money on advising against unprotected sex. They will now use the same money to directly treat the victims instead. (The women)
Thankfully the drugs have reached a pricepoint where their aid (unfortunate choice of words) wouldn't simply swell the bulging bank accounts of the multinational drugs companies.
A serious problem is the very high proportion of totally non-effective fake drugs. (The new vastly profitable sideline for organised crime)
Cue Mick?

Dunno mate. Are you confusing me with someone who cares?

I'm not so sure about that. To me, it doesn't look like B-16's election was a compromise (and please try to hang on to the principle that the cardinals are not supposed to really discuss candidates for the papacy). Secondly, the late JP-2 has appointed a lot of conservative cardinals, as will the new pope!quote:The chances are by then, the Cardinals will elect a more "Liberal" Pope.
Still, compared to Ratzinger, any new pope will probably seem liberal...
Cheers,
Edo

Hi all,
I am from Germany and I am a Catholic.
When I read the headlines from the British press, I become furious:
" From Hitler Youth to Papa Ratzi " ( Sun )
" Tank Cardinal " ( Daily Mirror )
" God`s Rottweiler " ( Daily Telegraph )
Sorry, I thought, English people are fair sportsmen, it would be fair , to give Benedikt 16th a chance.
Manfred

I'm inclined to agree with you, Manfred. I thought the Sun's headline was particularly offensive (as usual).

I was working on "lot" being a collective and taking the singular - a moot point.
And no - I won't point that moot at you.

I find the whole business hilarious and bizarre. Here we have an organization totally out of touch with society, lead by weird celibate men (er.... why?) who are unable to produce anything other than twaddle and hope.
Result?
The 'company' is incredibly wealthy with millions of supporters and paying customers.
Alan Sugar - take note. You're a beginner mate, compared to this lot.
John.

If someone as far right and extreme in their views were to be appointed as the head of a 1 billion person state the rest of the world would be shitting bricks. Fortunately however, the majority of their adherents play no more than lip-service to the Catholic church's more lunatic teachings.
Posted on: 21 April 2005 by 7V
Then the world must be shitting a lot of bricks.
I'm interested, which of the Catholic Church's teachings do you consider more lunatic (that the majority ignore)?

There are so many looney aspects but I'll pick a few of the major ones:
1. Equal rights for women
2. Gay rights
3. Contraception

I can see it now - Bush declares war and carpet bombs Vatican City. Thank God Bush is a Christian.

I wonder what the Barclay brothers thought about the telegraph's God's Rottweiller" headline, what with them both being devout members of the faith and all, innit ?

As a member of the United Kingdom Guild of T-shirt and Fancy Goods Printers (UGTFGP) I was just wondering if anyone knows whether the new Pope smokes dope like the old one did?
I'm thinking of updating my designs so any advice on this matter would be gratefully received.

I have no idea, but when you do a T-Shirt of Prince Harry in his new "Pope as Nazi-Youth member" outfit at the next party - I want one.
