Rough Trade Top 100 al***s of 2007

Posted by: Steeve on 11 December 2007

just thought people might like some ideas for stocking fillers....even if it's just for themselves!

Interesting that this year they've decided not to actually put the chart in any particular order.

Probably a good idea not to - it would have been easy to choose the top record of the year, but easier for them just to put it on the list here.

There's a obvious error in my search facility as I can't see where they've put Rachel Unthank on their list.

I have 1 out of 100 .... pretty much says it all, one way or the other.

Jeff,

You are not alone.

I do realize that when a band like Wilco makes it big with three consistently good-to-great albums in a row, then they must also become unfashionable amongst the all-knowing indie-music-press-hipsterati, but to omit "Sky Blue Sky" from anywhere -- even #100! -- in the top 100 is just fucking daft.

Who's the chick in the floppy hat?

I have 5/100

Totally agree re Wilco, it has grown into one of the most frequently played and enjoyed records of the year in our house. It is of course throughly unfashionable.

Daniel

It's Bashia Bulat who did get in the top 100 - quite rightly too as Oh My Darling is by far the best new record I've bought this year.

Out of idle curiosity I wonder how many pictures of floppy hats there are on this forum Smile I have to concur it is a fine album though.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit to having 15/100 in my collection but then again I have been making a few visits there this year and find their recommendations usually fairly in tune with my tastes.

As always I'm in complete agreement - I notice his favourite drummer didn't get a mention either.
Posted on: 13 December 2007 by BigH47
Was that my favourite drummer ROTF?
No there wasn't a RUSH album listed an glaring oversite.

Surely that's the point of shops like Rough Trade and others though. There's no reason at all why you have to like any of the 100 albums and obviously everyone has their own favourites. But at least it is giving more exposure to less well-known music and you can listen before buying as well either in the shops or through their "Album Club" scheme.

I have six. So far.

The Roughtrade Counter Culture album is an essential purchase every year.

I have seven of them. A lot I've never heard of, but then, being 46, that's not unexpected as a lot of the list is 'young people's music'.
