What's the Best input for cd 3.5 into 72?

I seem to remember reading here on the conference some discussions about various inputs sounding better than others... but if I recall correctly those discussions had to do with 82's. Memory is faulty.

Any recommendations about which is the best sounding input for a cd player into a 72? I've been using the 10:00 position (I think on my vintage 72 thats titled Aux). My tape deck is installed into Tape 1. Also, my 72 has two phono inputs at 12:00 and 11:00 positions (Seems like later units only had one set of phono's at 12:00)?

So, any recommendations?

If the older 72's are like the 32.5's then the best input is probably the tuner one.

Thanks Steve. I seem to remember that the tuner connection was the preferred input on the 82's also. Does anyone know why this is so?

Do others also think that the tuner input is the preferred one for a cd player?

I think it was because unlike the tape loops it's unbuffered.

Your early 72 should have two sets of BNC connectors, (possibly fitted with adaptors?) or else there has been surgery.
The boards behind these inputs can be changed (just a push fit).
The original arrangement would have been phono boards for the "phono" input and 328 adjustable sensitivity line level boards for the "aux".
I use a CD player into the tuner input. You could use 326 straight-through boards on the aux input.
Do not use aux if the 328s are fitted, they sound awful.

...sounded best with my CD3 into my 72.

The CD input sounded a tad rolled off in comparision. I believe the 72 (tho maybe not the latest ones?) had an HF filter on the CD input.
