Naim allae or gala?

Posted by: Willem van Gemert on 11 June 2001

Just received the latest issue of Image Hifi and there is an ad from the German Naim distributor Music Line with a picture of the allae but with a different name underneath the picture: gala!
Did Naim listen to us and decided to change the name of the speaker or did the name change from gala to allae after this issue was already printed?

Ciao!

Hi Willem,

I heard that the name was meant to be different in Germany - namely Gala - probably because vee krauts are too stoopid tooh prohnounse allä propälee. A bizarre decision, I find, but there you go ...

That's an option I didn't even consider! If this is true, that would be indeed really bizarre! You will get the Opel/Vauxhall or Amstel/Aguilla effect. Very confusing IMHO.

Hope so. I'm looking forward to it! I'll give you a call when we arrive.

Ciao!

Gala is a coffee brand.

Good Gawd! - to me 'Gala' means a greasy slab of pork pie with rubbery egg in the middle?

Shoooorely a totally inappropriate moniker for a Naim speaker!

If Paul says it is allae not gala then it must be.

So it is pointless for me to say that I don't like the name gala for a speaker - as a gala is a fete, and if a speaker is effete it has lost its vitality.

Choosing a name is very difficult, and it is much easier to criticise the choice.

Chris

ps allae is still a crap name - no lae wink
