Levon Helm. Dirt Farmer.

Had a first listen this morning. For those of you taken with the recent Plant/ Krauss release, this is authentic old timey, bluegrassy sounds. Also (obviously) reminiscent of The Band in places. It sounded like a real grower, I'll be slapping it back on later tonight.

I bought this on impulse whilst in HMV buying some other CDs. Still not sure if I like it enough to keep. The track that was playing in the shop sounded brilliant.....even better on my system.

Personally I love it. One of my discs of the year.

Heard a couple of things from this on the radio and loved them. Definitely on my wish list for Christmas. Not so sure about the Plant/Krauss offering though...

The Levon Helm is excellent. He has an excellent cameo part in a movie called "Shooter" by the way - the guy has talent.

Likewise 'The Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada. Just don't mention Robbie Robertson.

There was even a rumour awhile back that he was Gillian Welch's father.

Why? I'm genuinely puzzled...I take it there is some acrimony there?

Good film - if a little quirky, but that's what helps make it a good film probably.

Cheers

More than a little. Robertson basks in others talents is a meglomaniacal, prima-donna according to Levon.
His biggest sin, however, was allowing Neil Diamond to appear at The Last Waltz.
