For some of us of course, it never went away.

I had some friends over at my place yesterday, and we played some vinyl on my LP12/Armageddon/Ittok/DV10x5.

Why doesn't my CDS3 do that?

Gramophones eh? Our wondrous age of digital technology still can't compete with a tiny precious stone, rattling around in a plastic groove, for sheer musical involvement.
