Sex & Mark Levinson
Well, I've been a fan of Mark Levinson's Reference systems for quite a while, but couldn't really see myself persuading Mrs Don to let me blow the price of a house on a hifi set.
Last night, however, Mrs D showed me a Mark Levinson advert and the book she had just bought as a result. Tonight she thinks I should invest in anything with the Mark Levinson mark!!
The advert reads
"Satisfaction
Kim Cattrall and
Mark Levinson sign
Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall and husband Mark Levinson will be signing copies of their new book 'Satisfaction; The Art of Female Orgasm' (Thorsons £16.00) on Monday 22nd April from 5.30pm in Books on the Lower Ground Floor of Selfridges, Oxford Street."
Might be worth a try!
Cheers
Don

Forget the amp, seems to me you are about to be otherwise engaged!

You know that the name Mark Levinson associated with amps,
and your title made me think – what to hell is he doing with amps?
Was okay after the title – Are we crazy?

I may be wrong here, and I'm sure you guys will correct me, but AFAIR Mark Levinson has had nothing to do with the eponymous brand since it went tits up in the early 80's and he sold the lot, including the right to use his name to some other company. I'm not sure if he's even associated with the industry at all these days.
Of course this all relies on my vague recollection of some colour supplement article a few years ago, and I could well have been imagining it.

My good lady bought said book via American Amazon a few weeks back. It's, cough, quite interesting...
However, can I just add that it's all from a predominantly female-pleasing perspective, so you might end up somewhat tongue-tied

If you're looking for the ultimate in sex advice, try "Men are from Mars, Woman from Venus". No mention of hifi but you won't regret it!

In the current
Stereophile, there is an interesting four page interview with Levinson. A couple interesting points that he made:
- He seems down on CDs but feels that SACD (when properly implemented) can parallel LPs in terms of involvement and emotional excitement afforded the listener.
- He is big on the Sony Direct Stream Digital (DSD) stuff.
- One channel is enough to make listeners happy - he noted that he's never heard anyone complain about old Louis Armstrong recordings in mono. The music that people want ot listen to is not well suited to multichannel. Quality and simplicity (of stereo) wins over quantity and complexity.
- He seems to be following the Naim NACA5 model with his Red Rose speaker cable ($10/foot). It is flexible however...
In sum, I enjoyed the interview and found Levinson to be quite a reasonable character wrt the opinions he expressed.
