Beers'n'Tunes at Promusica, Chicago
Posted by: jon h on 15 October 2008
As you will recall from the recent thread in Distributed Audio, I am flying into Chicago next week, en route to a conference in Champaign, IL.
Some members said it would be fun to meet up at the legendary Naim dealer in Chicago, Pro Musica, and then grab some fluid refreshements etc.
If anyone thinks this is a good idea and wants to come along, let me know. I certainly want to drop into the shop anyway to say hi.
The date is next wednesday, 22nd. I land at 2pm or so, so reckon on 3.30pm or so at the shop?

Oh, and the beers are on me. I'm sure everyone has had enough grief from me that I owe them a beer

It will be fun Jon

...and John Schwartz will probably give you the chance to listen to the SF Amati Anniversario fed with 555/552/500

I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit at Promusica!
Wish you a good time in US Jon,
Regards,
Edouard

A little over optimistic I'd say, but maybe you'll get lucky going thru customs and rental car pick-up, always a guess. If you've checked bags add 30 minutes, they are usually slow. I was est. between 4-5 pm, but we can always listen while were waiting.

Jon, since you'll be in the "neighborhood", stop by Tune Hi-Fi and Hawthorne Stereo in Seattle. They're a nice bunch of folks too. You can get a non stop from Chicago and be here in about 3 hours.

Love to, and I will be in Seattle soon.
However, my travel plans are ultra-hectic as it is -- I thought i had a quiet sunday with which to drive back to Chicago airport, fly to LA and get into the hotel ready for Monday 8am. Now I have moved my flight to the last flight to LA on Saturday night, landing at 22:15, for meetings starting 8am Sunday. Then its 14 hour days through to Thursday evening when I get the last flight back to UK.
No rest for the wicked, it seems!

Hi Jon.
I've been bothering John, Ken, and Mark for over 10 years now
If they'll have me, I would love to have a few beers with you guys.
I recently launched a thread where I was talking about the 552/500/Amatis @ Promusica and noone except Kuma showed any interest.
Anyway....I hope some other locals chime in.

Jeff,
John from Promusica has helped me out with my choice on the Amati's, and believe me I can truly be thankful to him, some friends in Chicago that you might know, have also help me quite a bit to take the plunge...and BINGO...what a speaker!
Best,
Edouard

Yes, they are truly amazing. I'm extremely envious

I guess I'll have to live with my SBLs and old Quads until I win the lottery!

Jon, let me know if you are ever in the New York City area so you can compare DBL systems.
Tempting to fly to Chicago but I am occupied with Leica next week.

I just spent a few minutes with John in the store last week. Great store to visit. He had the HDX running rips of audiophile vinyl and it sounded pretty great over the Amatis!

Jay -- be delighted to visit -- am in NYC every year or so.
Leica -- will be taking my standard "holiday snapshot" sub-selection with me -- m8, wide-tri, narrow-tri, nocti. one body and 7 primes in a small case that hides in my rucksack!

Please let me know when you are in town.
Leica -- that's a lot of kit! Even in the M, that must weigh a lot. Good shooting.
Have a good trip to Chicago!

Err, the two trielmars are great cos they are both triple. If I was to take the 21, the 24, the 28, the 35F1.4, the 75F1.4 and the 90F2, then my shoulder would fall off

My mistake. I thought you were taking the two Tri-elmars _and_ seven primes (rather than the two Tri-Elmars being equal to six primes, plus the Noctilux equals seven). That's not so bad.

Jon,
If I have a chance I will stop at ProMusica after 4 PM.

Tee hee -- no, just two tris and a nocti. I might wimp out and take new canon ixus, depends on how much compute stuff I have to bring for work. Macbook Air + leica is fine -- air + pc laptop rules out the leicas
