Is it a mirror picture too, so his 'copter would become a drilling rig?

Last one I flew in was a Merlin, just after I sat in the front seat of an AH-64D Apache Longbow.
I win.

The entire UK complement of Apaches are based just down the road from me at Wattisham.
The wife and I were out for a drive last year down a little country lane when an Apache suddenly popped up from behind some trees in a valley close to the road. As we drove along, it hovered there and tracked round, pointing its front gun in our direction.
An evil-looking machine. I'd hate to have one angry at me!
They had a very interesting open day at the base the other year & I got into a conversation with one of the pilots who was standing next to an Apache with all its armaments neatly arranged to either side.
I enquired how much one would cost, allowing maximum discount & a possible trade-in with my Audi. He said that with the most common options (leather, sat. nav. etc.)it would be about £30M...

Blimey Stuart, it must have been very tight in there!
I suppose it was only him - wouldn't have been room for his band too.

I'm not convinced Diccus!
Our next-door neighbour's daughter is married to one of the helicopter engineers at the Wattisham base. He was telling us that the Army Air Corps asked the guys if anyone wanted to be trained up as a helicopter pilot.
They got no volunteers!

The flight from Kent to Devon in daylight was great.
I just did not like the dark and rain on the way home.
They do have a very good SatNav in them.

Fond memories of that and the Alouette during my time in Kenya and Aden as an aircraft technician (REME) with the Army Air Corps.

I have fond memories of the Westland Wasp. I first flew in one in 1977 and quickly learned that I did not like auto-rotation!

When I lived just north of Aberdeen I used to be under the helicopter flight path to some of the North Sea platforms.....and I used to love watching these monsters - at least until the crash that killed 46 workers in 1986 and they were subsequently banned from use for that purpose..
