Hiring Photographers

I am fed up of being charged a fortune for licenced stock photography for publications and websites. I do use Royalty free stock but as my company style is quite quirky/arty I usually can't find what I need.
Does anyone know how much it would cost to hire a pro/semi pro photographer? They need to be good quality as they are blown up to A3 size. Also is there a list somewhere of good ones in the London area.
