Years ago I used to play via email after registering via a couple of www sites - however I now can't remember what they were. Any 'on-line' players out there who can point me in the right direction?

I sometimes play on http://zone.msn.com/en/chess/ , it's a good site, and has good game functionality. It's a bit "chatty" but depending on your standard you should be able to choose from one of the many game rooms, and find someone who's agood match.
If you want something a bit more serious, think that http://www.chessclub.com/ is probably the place to be. Often has online tournaments and regularly has GMs playing online.
