CD / Amp Remote Control

A thought triggered by the "copy Protection Upgrade" thread.
Is there really any need to incorporate vol control/balance/stop/play/select controls on the front panels when they are duplicated on the remote control units ?
Deletion of these switches/selectors would reduce the price of the equipment, clean up the panel appearance, improve reliability and possibly improve sound quality etc.
Would anyone miss the front panel controls ?

Ah but what happens when ...
- the dog chews the remote
- your youngest drops the remote, the batteries fall out so they think its broken and throw it in the bin to hide their accident (this has happened to me!)
- You can't find your Naim remote amongst the fifteen others you have lying araound for the TV, Video, DVD, AV, lights, curtains etc. etc.

Conversley Seag,
it's easier to hide the remote and avoid the little fingers/cd/offset puck/lost in the machine puck moments that I'll always treasure.....

My listening chair is about 2 feet from the gear so I rarely need to use the remote.

On the other hand, hidden things get forgotten, how many times have you had to turn the house upside down to find something that was deliberately hidden?
Had our first "puck event" last week when my two year old played a CD - Mrs S said that the CD was jumping a lotand so stopped it. When I got home I wanted to play my new Porcupine Tree CD and found the draw contained one of my daughter's CD's in the draw, minus puck
