NaimUniti 3.0 & n-stream

Posted by: Develyn on 18 October 2010

Have you updated to 3.0 and purchased the n-stream app?

If so, please provide your thoughts on each.

PS. Mine has been sent in for the update and requires the board change so it's going back to HQ. Hopefully won't take more than 3-4 weeks for return.

Updated my own Uniti (BCSW10189 version) last night and now enjoy control via iTouch - brilliant.

Update process was straight forward (same process as for v2.0), but had to install Twonky MS on my ReadyNAS Duo to get the artwork presented in the n-Stream app. Otherwise painless.

In my opinion, the bigger plus of the v3.0 update is the resolution of gapless playback on WAV & FLAC files, so I can now enjoy albums such as Live in Gdansk, Aerial (Sky of Honey) & DSOTM without the "gap" - excellent.

Now deciding whether to send it away for the digital iPod upgrade?

Hi Tony. Thanks for the info. Mine is also getting the digital iPod update.

Have used both pre update Uniti (loan model) and latest factory spec model. Some thoughts ...

Streaming quality seems better in Uniti 3 although mine still needs to burn in a bit.

N-stream app disappointing when paired with eyeconnect - how do I get album art?

iPod connection brilliant.

Tony, which version of twonky did you use for the Duo? There doesn't appear to be a standard release for the Duo. Many thanks

Much more important than gapless, pause now works under 3.0.0!

iTunes does not store album art (it caches some images in a wholly-separate folder)–you need to use a third-party app such as TuneUp (or others) in order to store persistent album art within the iTunes music folders.

This is not the fault of the n-Stream app or EyeConnect, but iTunes' manner of handling cover art.

On the PC, iCoverArt seems to work fairly well for cleaning up cover art.

Add CoverScout to the list of useful cover-art applications on the Mac.

John : oops, forgot about Pause - & I agree, another nice feature.

Paul : v6.0.23 (NB unsupported version) downloaded from the Netgear forum - and works great with Uniti & DS players and ReadyNAS. Made aware of this version by Linn and have a number of customers using it now.

DD what's your verdict on CoverScout?
I seem to have many missing covers, also the insert printing could be a boon too.

Thanks David _ I didn't realise iTunes handled cover art that way..explains a lot.
