Ghost in the machine

Any ideas?

Every so often I hear a foreign radio signal through the speakers, without switching on the tuner! This is volume independent and continues in the background if a source is playing. I think it appears during periods of high atmospheric pressure.

My assumption is that something in the system is acting as an aerial.

The set up is CDX/XPS/102/Hi-Cap/140x2/IXO/Credo all via naim interconnects but Chord Rumour speaker cable. All original power leads and a dedicated mains spur. I have an Audiolab 8000T tuner and decent FM aerial but this is not powered up when the signal appears.

Do I need an electrician or a psychiatrist?

1. Is it actually a radio signal, or could it be it's your neighbours singing or having a chat, etc. next door?

2. Is it a semi-detached house you live in, with thin walls?

3. From what country do your mumbling neighbours originate?

4. Did I say 3 questions? I meant 6

5. Can you actually receive this station when actually using your aerial?

6. Are your neighbours interesting people?

Bruce,

You don't need a psychiatrist at all (at least from what I can read big grin ) - this kind of interference is an old and very common problem, and it occurs more on some days than others (depending on the weather?). Funnily, it happened on my old B&W speakers, on my new gear it has disappeared (but I have moved also).

Check the Web about that - there must be plenty of information.
