Redundancy payment
Posted by: Fisbey on 02 August 2005
There is a distinct possibility that I may be mad redundant soon. I have been with the company 23 years - what is the minimum pay off (statuatory) I will receive?
Thanks

Maximum salary of £280 per week for the calculator? Didn't know the internet existed when I was earning that! (joke)

Unfortunately you must remember this is a statutory calculation. So if your company was only to give statutory redundancy payment they can calculate on £280 per week if they please, it wouldn’t matter if you earn 100k – your redundancy payment can be calc’d at £280 per week if your salary exceeds that.
But in reality the majority of companies use a much more generous method of calculation.

Fisbey,
I was made redundant myself only a couple of months ago (after 8 years service) so I really sympathise with your situation. As others have said the standard statutory redundancy is nothing to write home about but companies do usually offer a more generous figure. In my case it worked out to about 6 months take home pay, so it'll tide me over for a few months at least.
Best of luck whatever happens.
Cheers,
Jon

As I say I'm not too sure it's going to happen, but's there's a fair chance, without going into the reasons - all I can say several of us here have been interviewed by an attorney with regard to 'irregularities'. Not nice at all.
Jon - I followed the thread - and thanks.

I too sympathise with you, I was made redundant last month.
However, the Company should consult with you in connection with dismissal. If they do not, and you are made redundant, this is a breach of the Statutory Dismissal procedures. You should also be consulted fully in connection with your redundancy.
Breach of the above dismissal procedures results in compensation for loss of office if you have suffered a financial loss because of the breach.
If the case were to go to a Tribunal, and there has been a breach, then the Tribunal will automatically award in your favour.
I know all this as my former employer has breached , and solicitors are talking on compensation.
Kind Regards and best wishes

Fisbey,
I was also made redundant a few months back. In Australia we get two weeks pay for every full year of employment.
I decided to use the money for a few months break, the best thing I ever did. Almost looking forward to retirement (several decades to go yet). I found that live can be cheap without kids and when you do your own cooking.
good luck
Gus
