Cartridge advice

Posted by: Rockingdoc on 06 March 2001

Any views on the best cartridge for an involving musical experience from my LP12/Lingo/Ittok.
Even my Linn-fanatic dealer doesn't advise the Arkiv, but favours the Audio-Technica OC-9. This seems a retrograde step from my Ortofon Rohmann which I am now finding a bit HiFi.
I'm actually having more enjoyment from my Townsend/RB300/Goldring 1042, which is in place while the Linn has a service. Prefering the Goldring over the Ortophon makes me think something is wrong.

Hi Rockingdoc:

I'd say there's a set-up issue with your system. Pity I'm not still in Bromley instead of 4500 miles away or I'd happily check it out for you!

One niggling feeling is that the Ittok may be holding back the Ortofon. Can you try/afford an ARO or Ekos?

Best Regards,

Thanks for your advice. So, if it isn't the cartridge, where should the upgrade be made first?
Ittok to Ekos/Aro, or a fancy Mana table to replace my Sound Organisation table.
