How many hydra ?

Posted by: DIL on 12 June 2002

Hi,

Just about to put together my own *Hydra*

Question is, how many do I need.

System:
LP12, Karik:Numerik, 82, Hi, 250.

Current thoughts are to build two with two heads each; one for the Karik:Numerik combo and one for the Hi and 250. The LP12 and NAPSC keep their original leads. Good move or .......

Hi David,

good move ,especially if your Karik and Numerik were the latest versions when you purchased them. If so they were built with SMPS's in them which can mess up the mains supply for the rest of your system.

Ultimately get a direct mains spur for the Karik and Numerik and one for the other system components.

Don't you need 5 heads? Two hydras are a good idea I think.

LP12, Hicap, 250 on one
Karik and Numerik on the other

Frank,

I was not thinking of 'hard wiring' my LP12 into the hydra, but I guess it would be possible.

Anyone have experience with this or comments ?

Hi David

I have my LP12 hard wired in to my own Hydra arrangement along with amps and ps. Seems to work well. Rather than butcher the original naim leads I cut the plugs off some spare non naim leads. I just use 6mm T&E (as used on my spur) with a plug on one end and a 30A junction box on the other. You have to drill the holes in the plug prongs a little bigger to accept the cable but otherwise it's straightforward.
