Young Ladies Who Sing Songs For Your Pleasure

Posted by: Whizzkid on 05 October 2008

Hi Guys,

After looking at the "what are you listening to now" thread for sometime I've noticed a proportionate amount of seemingly young pretty lady singer/songwriters being listening to by the mainly male folk on this forum. Now I ask myself does this have anything to do with the actual music or is this a nice way to have a few cheeky "bits on the side" without the missus knowing? or is my seedy imagination runing away with me? are those young lush sweet tones coming through your speakers arousing more than just the hairs on the back of your necks. Winker Please tell me that I've got you Folky/singer/songwriting loving peeps all wrong. Red Face

and, of course,

and one of my most favourite groups

I tend to think these young ladies are pushing music forward - I can't think of any up and coming male singers or groups (James Blunt?) that interest me. I don't like rap or hip-hop music which all sounds rather dated to me.

Even the best exponent of electronica was female

It's the wonderful great late Delia Derbyshire for those who don't know.

So, Dean, it is purely a musical preference IMHO.

You may have a point there somewhere, Dean. I'm currently besotted with the Laura Marling (picture below) record 'Alas I Cannot Swim'.

I would add that I had no idea what she looked like before deciding I liked the record, but I must say that, in general, I prefer the sound of the female voice. Whether this is a sexual response I couldn't say, but I will also add that in my view there are far more talented female singer/songwriters around at the moment than male.

Perhaps it's just a bit of mid-life crisis!

Seriously though, it's absolutely natural than men prefer women's voices and women prefer men's. IMO.

Guys I'm glad you took my post in the spirit it was meant Smile. Now the weirdo that I am I mainly listen to male lead/solo singers rather than female so Jamie I must be wired wrong the women that float my boat are few and far between the two I mainly listen too and love are Siouxsie Sioux & Patty Smith, though there are many female vocalists in dance music they are usually unknowns, they are more earthy than many of the folky singer songwriters but then again I listen to a lot of instrumental music anyway lyrics can get on my nerves if they are twee or just plan bad. I have had a go at some of the mentioned ladies on youtube but I'm afraid to sweet for me I like my women a bit more rock 'n' roll like Lucinda Williams.

Hardly wrong wiring with those two!!!

Clearly meant as a very generic statement but how else can all the sales of Will Young's records be explained? However, your tastes have obviously expanded somewhat over the last year or two from other posts maybe it's time to try some 'soft jazz'.

Tell you what though, I thought of another reason. Most of my listening is done between 8pm and 9pm, after the kids have gone to bed and before my wife wants to watch telly. Volume has to be kept lowish. Female vocals still sound fine and distinct at low volume. Led Zep doesn't!!
