Seeing all those pics of other people's classy Naim systems got me curious as to what else is out there...

Your stuff looks cool.

I should have named the topic "Poll for ugliest system ever" smile

P.S. Nevertheless, I'd love to see your system also when you get a chance...

Roksan had a particularly ugly period at its inception - how about the original Xerxes with flimsy opaque black lid with the squat on the floor tripod stand for it, and either the 'exoskeleton' Darius that looked like it was falling over or the Cornflake shop wrap around kan stands - yeuch!

"A guy we knew used to use a pair of Quad ELS57 without the front grills on."

That would be dangerous if he fell into them. Hope he doesn't have kids or pets around.

"I think that is the nastiest sight I have ever seen in a listening room . My girlfriend at that time had to listen with her eyes shut because she couldn't bear to look at them."
Maybe this look would be more tolerable to the eyes.

Wool rug added and rack moved to concrete floor.
Lesser amp but better setup = better performance.

I never cared how QUADS looked.

They sound so great, they could be made of a heap
of garbage from the dump, I would not care.

When I replied to this I'm sure the topic had another title...

I find the DNM preamp ugly but the Crimson monoblocks are cute in a hifi sort of a way.

Ugliest hifi I've ever seen is all that really sad Tag McLaren stuff... don't know why I find it ugly but I do.

I'd have to rank the CDX/CD3.5 up there too, I'm afraid, but we'll let them off as they sound good.

Hey guys, if we're talkin really ugly....
What about the Arcam Alpha series ? imho, they look horrible!

but I must confess,Tac McLaren is a pretty serious contender also.

ehh,...in the ugly speakers category I would consider the Kan's,when I'm honest.
I Do have 'em,and also like 'em,but they do come pretty El cheapo, when it comes to looks.

So tacky it's a pain in the eyes, so booring in the sound it makes you fall asleep (and I heard a £150'000 system), but its polished looks have excellent value for deaf wallet boasters.

John, I did change the topic name. I should proofread before clicking Post Now smile

I don't find your plastic pal all that ugly, but I've never seen it in the flesh.

Alco,

How do you find Kans ugly? They're small, unobtrusive little boxes that press up against the wall...

The ex-Audiolab TAG stuff isn't too much of an eyesore, but the new stuff like their DVD and loudspeakers are abominations.
To me ugly is chrome, gold, bolts and just general shininess. When I save up enough for a FRAIM, it's gonna be all black!

Hi Mike,

Well, in a way I like the simple looks of Kans but on the other hand, they look like some cheap speakers that you'd get for free with some '80's Japanees mini-set.
(I mean the black one,eh)
In cherry or Santos-Rosewood it's quite a different matter though)

Greetings,
Alco
