Best drum and bass?

Ok how about the best drum and bass artists/recordings over the last few years. Obviously Aphrodite, Ed Rush and Optical, Roni Size and Reprazent goes without saying, Bill Laswell’s Oscillations Series, Photek, Adam F, sique, London Elektricity, Peshay, LTJ Buckem, Origin Unknown, Methods of Defiance. But who have I missed?

Depends what sort of DnB you like.

I used to love Bad Company, some really moody stuff there.

Good call. Tend to like the dark stuff myself

Depends if you regard Goldie as dark?

However, i myself like the slightly more laid back sounds of Omni Trio,JMJ & Ritchie etc.

Tony Thompson and Bernard Edwards.

Omni Trio hit the mark for me. I also rather like More Rockers and Smith and Mighty.

In a genre which seems more prone to cliche than most, a couple of practitioners stand out.

A Guy Called Gerald - his first album Black Secret Technology is excellent. His second album is just OK. Not sure what he's up to now. Maybe living off the royalties from "Pacific State"?

Squarepusher - "Feed Me Weird Things" is a jazz-rocky take on DnB. His subsequent output, although good, moves away from DnB.

And one to avoid at all costs - Grooverider "Mysteries of Funk" - Not funky, just dreary. The only mystery is how this nomark got a record deal.

Not sure if you would classify as Drum and Bass, but early Third Eye Foundation are dark as hell and pretty damn fantastic.

Hmm... tricky......

John Paul Jones'n'John 'Bonzo' Bonham

or maybe

John Entwistle'n'Keith Moon

Can't decide!

Winker Razz

Maybe Macca, but certainly not Ringo - not even the best drummer in the Beatles!!!

I'll second that. I've got a double CD of his that is tedious beyond belief. Although it's not as bad as Goldie or Metalheadz. Dillinja is another one that should be avoided like the plague

Another vote for Bukem. The logical progression and 'Earth' box sets are the business IMO.

At the Moment I like Alaska's(aka Paradox) new album Artic Foundations also anything on Hospital records High Contrast, Cyantific, London Electricity. Calibre, Klute and DJ Fresh new ones are also good.

Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare with Peter Tosh, Grace Jones, Ian Dury, Joe Cocker and many others. Fabulous.
