CDS - The Greater Charmer

CDI versus CDS1/CDPS

Well its been just over a week now since the arrival of my cds1/cdps - before I begin its worth pointing out that with CDI set-up allowed an additional shelf to really distance the 82 and snaxo from the p/supply nastiness, now the cdps has muscled in - my hicap resides on the same shelf as the snaxo, and directly underneath the 82 frown

I must admit the first few days left me very underwhelmed - the cds1 was only switched off for say 2hrs, but the improvement vs. the CDi was very subtle. It wasn't really until a week in that the cds1 is REALLY coming on song BIG TIME - the sheer ease this player operates with is sublime, but there wasn't really any more detail - essentially the presentation was just more laidback and much easier to follow.

Heah Marco - yesterday I swapped the cdps MWorks IEC lead, back to a pukka Naim lead, WOW the sheer detail coming through now its truly amazing, its seems the MWorks rolls off the high-end detail, giving a more rounded/smoother sound. The Naim lead masks nothing - the way like it. Anyway to be fair I intend swapping back to the MWorks before making any permanent changes.

In summary oncefully warmed the cds1 - beats the CDi, in terms of bass retrieval/unravelling tunes/and PRaT - not in a major way, but one that just makes so much more sense...

However, I do feel if the current set-up was level with the old CDI set-up (in terms of distancing the pre/snaxo from p/supplies) the difference would be far greater.

Myself and JN recently had an experience where we moved a SuperCap away from a SNAXO, and it was obviously a lot better from the first note played.

P.S. active Phase 0 SL2s is another way...

Cheers Martin

I just need to think of a cunning method of distancing the 82/snaxo - my Mana stack is ~6ft at the moment.

From my experiments it is inconceivable that I would ever go back to running an active system on a single stack.

Powered stuff on one rack, sources on the other.

Unfortunately, I guess that would mean using a hacksaw in your case?

cheers, Martin

I assume the seperate racking is purely to distance boxes with p/supplies.

I have an idea ergonomically crazy, which is to add a two-tier rack to my six-tier, and house the 82/cds, this would also distance the snaxo - but would require a stepladder to change cd's roll eyes
