Band of Gypsys

Has anybody heard the return of the band of gypsys CD. Jimis spirit is back. Good guitarist like Eric Gales, and Buddy Miles and Billy Cox still rocking. I ve got my copy through the Hendrix website, signed by Billy Cox.
I like it.

Admittedly, I haven't heard this, and, honestly, I don't really want to. For me, there is no Band of Gypsys without Jimi.
All best,

With the real Band of Gypsys, I also appreciated very much Buddy Miles and Billy Cox. I think this rythm section was a big part of it, giving it a soul funky side.
I have the velvet boxes on vinyl and CD. They are a must for Hendrix fans.
Also just got me the japanese issue of the Band of Gypsys. I love it.

Absolutely, just as Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding were integral to the sound of the Experience (although, much more so the drummers than the bassists in each band).
But in both cases: no Jimi, no band.
All best,
Fred

It would be good if Jimi played again. He's a good actor as "Morgan Freeman" but I'd rather see him back as Jimi.

There are very good interpretations of Hendrix songs by artists like Gil Evans, Clapton, Roy Buchanan... Also great performances on tributes with Buddy Miles, Billy Cox, Redding, John McLaughlin, Tony Williams and so on.
I think it is hard to judge without listening, or dont judge a book by looking at its cover.

Urs, I have no problem at all with tributes, and have heard many good ones to Hendrix.
My problem is with calling the band Band of Gypsys. Without Jimi, it just ain't Band of Gypsys, any more than if Mitch Mitchell and the ghost of Noel Redding somehow reformed the Experience with some other guitarist.
All best,
Fred

I agree with Fred. Hendrix was a one off. People can copy his style, but they will never sound like Jimi. He was more than just the notes.

Fred, I agree with you. Actually I just checked the CD, and it was released under the names Billy Cox & Buddy Miles. The album was then titled The Band of Gypsys Return.
