Naim and VintageWInchester Speakers

Posted by: terryborth on 15 August 2003

An update. Some time ago I asked the forum for help with recommendation of what Naim gear for my speakers. I [had) a three to four thousand us dollar range.

Well, after multiple trials and tribulations and many hours of reading the forum this is what I now have:

CDX 11
82 with two high caps
250
Naim interconnects
25 ft. Naim speaker wires
dedicated spur

Very, very nice sound and well above the three to four K range.

Upgrades for the future when used equipoment available:

2 XPS (one for 82 then 52 and one for CDX 11

Any advise, suggestions or equipment available?

Thanks for the information. What is the difference between a supercap and a high cap?

PS traded in two high caps for a supercap and some more $ yesterday and I am amazed how much cleaner the sound is; less what I call grain and more bell like highs (smoother)

The hicap is an older design and not as good as a supercap. It was designed for use with the early Naim preamps from 42 to 72.

Whereas the supercap was designed for use with the 52 in mind. Its a much better design and is capble of making any preamp give its best from 552 down.

As you noticed it takes a supercap to show what an 82 can really do.

n.b. It also highlights the extra quality of the 52 over the 82.

Peter,

Your comment "it takes a supercap to show what a 82 can do" is absolutely correct. So much nicer in so many ways.

In your opinion, which next should I look to upgrade the 52 or a xps for the cdx2?
