Alfa pron

Look what turned up at the local pub on Saturday - you don't see many of these in one place. The procession through the local villages turned a few heads too - the sound was sublime
Any other Alfisti on here?
Cheers
John

One of these would be on my lust car list. Something brilliantly right about the SZ design for me.

All the SZ's are red except one, which was a gift to Zagato himself - in black.
The convertibles (odd looking things) were also available in black and yellow (yuk).
But Alfa red is a classic, and is the same even now.....

Nice pics indeed. I would have loved to have heard the 8C Spider go up the hill

My own car - humble fodder in comparison to what's gone before, a 2006 GT 1.9 JTDM

Nothing to be humble about IMO. The GT is an under-rated car, and not much on the road matches it for looks. I miss my V6 GT already - a real shame they stopped the Arese 3.2 engine (something to do with 'emissions' or some climate bollocks). And it pretended to be a practical hatchback when it suited.
Everytime SWMBO and I see a GT on the road, there's an audible nostalgic sigh

Good beer and food too. Owned by Mark Webber of Red Bull fame - he was scheduled to be around, but apparently, his mates are in town playing cricket, or something

You're right, the GT is a gorgeous car. I like the understated looks (admittedly somewhat negated by the red leather interior!) and you don't see that many about.

I actually started off with the intention of getting a new MiTo, took the 155hp turbo for a testdrive. While it was bloody quick and fun at first, I just ended up with the feeling that the 'off or on' nature of the delivery wasn't really what I was looking for. Whilst pondering my next move, I discovered a stock of used GT on the dealer forecourt and fell in love with it immediately.

I decided to go for the JTDM - similar power to the 2.0 petrol, more torque than the 3.2 V6 and 50 mpg on the cross-country run that accounts for most of my mileage. And more than enough real-world performance. It's a great cross-country mile-muncher. Would love to try a V6 though, just for the experience Smile

Plenty of Alfa 'features' like mirrors that are decorative rather than functional; a massive rear window that you can't see much out of due to the angle; a boot-lid that dumps water into the boot if opened too quickly; the airbag warning light that lights up at random; the non-functioning cruise control (thank goodness for the two-year warranty I negotiated into the deal!)

Yep, 4 months in and loving it.

Steve.

And surely there must be some other Alfa owners on here with pics of their cars to post up?

Ripping on Alfas is fun isn't it?

Here we go, I wondered how long it would take Winker

Steve, I agree the diesel is a nice torquey engine, but I need the soundtrack in my life. I had a 159SWTI with the 2.4 for a (short) while, but I had to go back to the V6, even if it is a Holden block now

Winky - that's a sad sight. I guess there aren't too many Alfas in Canada?
Posted on: 23 July 2009 by winkyincanada
I confess. It isn't mine. I just googled "alfa rust bucket" and that's what popped up. I'm pandering to the cliche.

Nice pic, not so sure about the cars.
Having owned one Alfa in the past and watched it rust and degrade faster than a Mk-I escort, never again.
Beauty or whatever turns you on is in the eye or mind of the beholder, and like all such enthusiasts / clubs / societies / Naim owners, Alfa enthusiast owners are no different, blinked and one track minded.
So I will continue to lust after a DB-9 and actually drive them from time to time, support my local Morris side, but continue in my total contentment to and blinkered vision through my rose coloured Bimmer windscreen.

No hate mail please, life is too short.

I have a GTV 3.0 V6 just for fun.
Mate of mine, who is a car salesmen, calls the GTV a "dirty barmaid" car, "good for the weekend but you wouldn't want to marry one"
I have a LEXUS GS300 sport if i need to actually get somewhere. Smile
The GTV is great for frightening the mrs and amusing the kids.

I don't think hate mail is needed. Just a bit of fun.
Peoples ideas on cars especially, seem to bring out very, extreme views.I'm not a BMW fan(don't really know why)unless it's a 850.
I had 2 work mates in the '70s both had Alfas, both literally rusted while you watched them, in fact one of them managed to drive the engine out of the chassis. That sort of thing kind of sticks in the mind.

BigH47, yes it’s all a bit of fun, but people sometimes take offence over the smallest thing, try discussing speaker cables for instance, especially if you dare suggest something is better than NACA5.
Getting back to cars, I used to work with the old Rolls Royce factory and I once asked one of their sales trainers what he thinks is so special about a Rolls. His reply was that if anything on a car is noticeable it has no place on a Rolls. I did not fully understand the subtleties at the time. But drive one for a few hours, as I have done since then, and he is right. Nothing is noticeable except the ambiance, and as the miles tick silently by the total satisfaction and smug grin factor never leaves you.
Dare I say it I get the same with (some) BMW's, it sounds childish but my sense of anticipation when I fly back into LHR every week and pick up the car and look forward to that drive home on that f~~### overcrowded with morons M40, but still with that smug grin ............ Big Grin
