Hummmmmm on Nait3

Posted by: Cheese on 03 May 2003

I will probably purchase the s/h Nait3 I have tried for a week now, the only problem being a mechanical hum, which stops when I put something heavy on it. When I remove the case there's of course no vibration either.

There is some space left in the amp so I thought about cutting a tennis ball to the right height and insert it into the Nait.

This will probably work, but does anyone of you know a more elegant solution ? Thanks.

Personally I wouldn't advise mucking around with the Nait innards. The hum may be caused by mains borne interference which can make the transformer in the power supply resonate. Does it happen all the time or only at certain times of day? It maybe of course that the Nait needs servicing which would probably cost you about £120ish so you'd need to factor that into your buy price or seek out a better one! You could try standing the Nait on isolating feet which could reduce the hum level by preventing resonance in whatever it stands on.
