Human League, John Foxx and Vinyl

Posted by: Malcolm Davey on 04 December 2003

Went to the Anvil Basingstoke last night to see the above (took along with firstborn, very impressed. The support was John Foxx who ran through an excellent selection of his stuff.

At the interval decided to invest... and found he has a new album out with a vinyl(reduced ) counterpart i.e. 8 tracks on vinyl which is what I bought...not allowed to play it until the 25th!!

Human League were stunning, I'd forgotten how many good 'pop' songs they had produced and an excellent show to boot, I'll be back next year.

It's a good venue and I really enjoyed Dexys and Aussie Pink Floyd not long ago

Always loved The Garden (?) album by John Foxx. Does it stand the test of time? New stuff similar at all?

The league's latest CD is really good - modern but with the hooks etc of their earlier stuff. Production and lyrics 1st class.
My wife despises it becsuse it reminds her of the 80's so it's quite good for torture too lol!

Andy - Do you mean Secrets?

Not too many memorable moments in it for me, apart from the track that was released as a single, and I can't even remember the name of that! This worth following though.

I remember liking Foxx's first album when it came out. On the strength of this I bought a CD compilation of his a few months ago. No, it had not stood the test of time. I suppose it was of its time, but not something that defined its time.

But I did get the recent reissues of the first two Human League alabums, and they still sound good.

David,
yes it is secrets - i quite like it - compared to what other pop was out at around the time this was released.
I've also just got their greatest hits with the bonus cd - well recorded and still good....
