I was playing Joe Jackson's Night & Day last night (from vinyl, of course) but then remembered I also have it on CD. You guess, I wanted to know how different it would be...
Well, it's a helluva lot different! I have more CD's that I also have on LP, and in most cases, they sound "similar" although I prefer the softness in the highs en thumb in the low from vinyl.
But this one was really totally different. Ok, I played it pretty loud as I like that with Joe, but the CD sounded real "harsh" if that's the right word. I'm using the CD-5/FC2 which is a decent CDP, I'd say. So my guess is that either the CD recording is "not good" or the LP is not.
I don't know, but in a back-to-back comparison I definitely preferred the vinyl version. I'm considering buying the 180g version of the album, just to see if that's gonna make a difference.
What do you think?

No, I don't clean the CD's. Actually, can't see much reason for it, as I am very careful with them. Besides, I have many so they don't come out of their boxes that often.
What would be your guess as to what causes a "bad" recording to sound better with a cleaned CD?
Cleaning the LP, yeah, can understand this would make quite a difference due to mechanical contact, so I clean those. Also very careful with them, by the way.

Do you know that on a record there are only two groves?
