Hi,
some folks in linn forum are writing about new Akurate line (DS and pre) ... new design and new finish (more klimax style)...could be interesting if you're looking for some 2nd hand or ex demo gear now...

New design eh - you know there is something to be said for finding your design niche and sticking with it. One of the things I loved about Cyrus and now Naim is the way you could match old and new so well together. I had 12 year old Cyrus kit sitting pretty with brand new equipment - great design - predictable build quality - job done.

NB: Ruined by the new Cyrus Zero monoblocks with their radiator grills - makes them look like cheap air conditioning units - but I digress)

I like Naim's "FU I'm going to build it my way with as much black anodised aluminium as the EU weight restrictions will allow approach.." I respect their love of florescent green in a world of pastels and PC silver.

Moreover, I like their aesthetic consistency.

IMO the Linn DS kit looks "orrible ...but what do I know ... if I owned some I would still like the new kit to blend with the old.

Ring..Ring love that Naim case sound...

Indeed! The Naim aesthetic is brilliant and consistent all the way down to the tiny headline and napsc.

Yes, that better look a whole lot better in person. But probably doesn't.

Are they releasing a DS with integrated pre??
(see source and previous/next buttons)

When this is true, things will get very interesting.

I thought they've had the DSi for a while now. And hasn't the Sneaky always had amps?

The DSi has got amps too but its a Streamer + integrated amp (inputs as well) rather than the Sneaky streamer + amp. Nearly as confusing as Naims digital strategy Winker

It's only confusing because there are a wide variety of applications catered to, not just one do-this-our-way approach.

I think a high-quality DS pre-amp, that you could stream to via upnp, and connect digital sources to directly, would be a killer product. I haven't bought a DS because it locks me out of using what purports to be an excellent DAC with other digital sources. I haven't bought a NDAC because there's no satisfying way of streaming to it. And I would have said that if either of these esteemed vendors has 'one do-this-our-way approach' it is surely Naim.

Edited to add: Ho! I've just seen sneak pictures of the new Akurate stuff on the obvious website - it's a nice Naim black!! And that is definitely a 'Source' button .. splendid! So, with a bit of luck, I should be able to stream to it, play the cds I haven't got round to ripping through it, connect my computer, dvd player, tv to it ...

very clever of linn to launch it now...

maybe they approaching the all in one high solution instead of separating into many boxes.yeawn. i really welcome the french devialet approach here.

would be great to see 252 with a real good onboard dac and streamer in one house...

A great addition in the Linn range, given its active speakers (simplicity)

The existing DS's have been released a while ago and still going very strong. When this is a new benchmark, competition can brace themselves.

ps looks like Linn have some sort of user panel (or cheat by browsing on the Naim forum ;-), they are on track developing quality streaming products with a keen architecture.

Regards, Fred

And, although it may well be expensive, if it is a pre-amp/streamer, then it replaces a pre-amp, DAC and streamer, and doesn't need power supply upgrades (x3!) , expensive mains leads(x3 or even x6)! or interconnects, or shelves. Time will tell.
