Speaker cables and interconnects

Posted by: long-time-dead on 29 August 2003

Here's a question to start the debate :

I am proposing to purchase CD5/112/150/ALLAE and obviously need speaker cables and interconnects........

  • Are Naim cables the best option ?
  • I might need to run the speaker cable under the carpet - any thoughts ?

I have no intention debating the merits of the proposed system other than the cabling........

naim cables all the way. It`s all about synergy. You have an all naim system. The interconnects are "free" and the speaker cable is reasonably priced. Money aside, sound-wise take the naim cables. As an example, I tried several times nordost blue heaven interconnect between my cds2 and 52. Initially I was taken in by the spectacle of shimmering highs and deeper bass- I thought, wow, what a difference. After a day, I was listening to my "new" system and suddenly it was like... I am not enjoying this. Musically nothing was happening. It was as if the musicians left the stage and a bunch of imposters took over. Playing the right notes, but no soul or real textures were present. Take the naim cables. regards, david.

Consider the naim cables: power cords, interconnects, speaker cable as a part of the electronics. You can't go wrong here!

Nice system. All you need in the future is a flatcap2.

Nordost interconnects can lend an artificiality to the sound of an all-Naim system.

I would stick with the standard interconnects that are included in this context.

As for cables, Naim Naca5 offers excellent value for money and is musically more satisfying than any other cable.

    Bar one - Townsend Isolda.

With its impedance matching it won't stress your Naim amps, and you can even use it in lengths <5m.

Check it is compatible with your speakers first (by listening) and if it does, you'll get one fantastic out-of-the-boxes musical experience.

    Regards,

    Steve.

    Thanks !

Reading posts in other topics, I was getting the feeling that the Naim cabling was important to the system and many queries seemed to centre on the "help, I've lost the music" angle.

I will give the Townsend Isolda a listen but it's nice to know that the concensus of opinion is the keep the Naim the same !

Flatcap2 is probably the first upgrade but might save for a HiCap (probably better for the future ?) as I will probably have to buy a Stageline for my vinyl.

Once again, your thoughts and comments are most appreciated.
