Anyone who likes Steve Wilson/Porcupine Tree's more trippy space jamming stuf should go and buy their latest - We're Coming for your Children.

Best to buy online at Freak Emporium rather than ask the girl at Smiths for it.

The Tree are poised for greatness having signed to Atlantic.

After months of delay I've finally ordered a copy of Henry Fool.

I hope PT are poised for (yet more) greatness - they will have to do a bit of a U Turn and head back towards Signify and beyond. I hope they don't get too caught up in the commercialism - much as I enjoy Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun they are hardly the best of PT.

The last time I spoke to Steven he was producing Swedish death metal bands! Not heard the new album stuff yet, but I do agree with you re the direction.

Hope you like the fool. We've just done two more tracks for a sampler. It's fun being in a band again - rather than playing with myself, so to speak.

wink

Hello all!!

Mr Alex said "I hope they don't get too caught up in the commercialism - much as I enjoy Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun they are hardly the best of PT."

I sort of disagree, these two albums, although being slighly more commercial, still finally show the band playing as a band on a studio album, ( with good recordings) rather than Wilson and others.

I do know that Wilson, Edwin et al have worked together for a long time, but on record IMO never sounded like a real band. The Sky Moves sideways, and Signify were very good, but still I think they sound a bit reserved as a band, but the Metanoia sessions are awesome, showing their potential at the Signify session times. Perhaps the recording techniques/equipment changed??

I do agree that they are a bit more poppy ( or PoppyQ for Stephen B :-) ), but now the bands direction is definitely supposed to be more dark, which I am all for !! It's good to see the evolution of the band.

I am sad that Chris Maitland left, as he was talented, and great for the Tree. Hopefully he will still be playing. I hope the new guy will be good to ( well he has got to be really to get into the band!!)

PS, there's a new live Ozrics and DVD out soon :-) hoorahh

Cheers

Goose,

I sort of agree with your disagreement. Metanoia is superb, especially at the beginning and the end (before they start ordering food, although that has its charm). Recordings is one of their best, which is an amalgam of Sun and Stupid with the real crap removed and the good bits extended.

Stephen,

I have my Fool. Really good. The high points are the keyboard playing and the production on some of the tracks.

Gus,

Machine Says Yes and Melody AM have arrived; enjoying both but have to say I prefer the latter.

Thanks to all,

Alex

..for the Fool comments. It was nice to tinkle the plastics in a band situation again - and to pit production skills against the Steven Wilson, who, intimidatingly enough, had just produced what I believe to be his finest production work with Anja Garbarek.
