are selling some interesting music cheaply in their sale. Of interest to me where the Dylan, John Martyn and Lee Perry discs but there are many other titles. They range from £7.99 to £9.99 inclusive of delivery in the UK. In other words you have very little to lose.

Thanks for that. A copy of The Upsetters 'Super Ape', and Parliament's fabulously titled 'The Clones Of Dr Funkenstein' are now winging their way towards me.

I've had some great tips to online bargains off this board. Keep them coming.

Haven't bought anything from Simply Vinyl before so looking forward to receiving Supertramp and Bob Dylan.

I also got the Parliament mostly because of a friends endless insistence on the God-like genius of Bootsy (he calls his 1 yr old son Bootsy) and George. This is boring music, dull. The witty titles are a facade. Certainly doesn't deliver in the way that a true genius such as Sun Ra. Now this same friend has 2-300 lps in his cellar which we have agreed I will look after until he decides if he needs a TT again. There is an original pressing of Kind of Blue in there, the rest are funkin funkinstein. All's fair in love and ..

On another list I'm on, there is a continuing debate about SV quality. Some are held to be good, others not so good. Here in the US they are quite expensive ($30) so I haven't tried. Can you guys recommend titles which you have compared with other available pressings, including cd?

I only own one of these, The Clash, which I got for 60% off. This one is from the digital remaster, and while it is pretty good, I don't like it as much as either the UK original or the remastered cd. Wouldn't want to spend the full price and get the same disappointing result again.

In particular, has anyone compared the Nick Drake titles to the new cds (as UK originals are horrible expensive).

HiFi+ did a piece on SV back in November 1999 (issue 3) which discussed what they were trying to do and the limitations of the sources they were working with. It also had comparisons and recommendations.

If this isn't available online somewhere get back to me and I'll try and get it scanned and forwarded if you are interested.

BTW I've now got the two albums I mentioned above and I'm very happy with them. Contemplating further purchases from SV as I write this.

Cheers,

My two cents on a recently purchased copy of Talk Talk's fine LP "Spirit of Eden" on Simply Vinyl. One, I payed $17.00, which is perfectly reasonable here in the US. It's actually several dollars below what a "regular" import pressing would be, I'm wondering if they were priced incorrectly. The pressing was clean and quiet, but the sound quality left something to be desired. Overall it was rather dark and muted sounding, with audible distortion and muddying at loud moments (only a few of those on this record). I own an old US pressing of "Color of Spring", and the US CD of "Laughing Stock", and both sound better than this. Not terrible, but not "audiophile quality" in my opinion.
