Blimey!!! My heartrate's just about back to normal.

Either would have been a worthy champion but as a Lewis supporter and of the belief he's been on the wrong end of a couple of bizarre decisions this year, I'm extremely pleased and happy for him.

Well done Lewis. And his Dad. And Ron.

absolutely amazing - what the hell happened to Vettel?
Posted on: 02 November 2008 by Tony Lockhart
Not so much Vettel as Glock! The little we saw of him being passed on that final corner or so seemed to show him sliding around a bit. Ooops!

Well done Lewis, and well done for riding some luck!

I wouldn’t mind watching that again. Just to see what lines Glock was taking through the last few bends and how wet the track actually was.

Ferrari hurrah! err, oops...

wunderful to see.

I hope Glock makes it out of Brazil without getting lynched... Eek

I'd never prayed (swore Roll Eyes) for rain so much in my life
Posted on: 02 November 2008 by Chillkram
Unbelievable. With 11 laps to go it was well under control. Then came the threat of rain and it became a lottery.

I think we all thought it was finished when Vettel went past him with 2 laps to go.

I've never seen a championship go that close to the wire; all change with 2 corners left.

Commiserations to Philippe Massa who is a lovely guy and didn't deserve to lose like that.

I hope he too is World Champ some day.

Bloody hell what a result.
I had to wait as we were out just finished watching have the FIA given Massa the championship yet?
Congratulations Lewis lost by 1 point 2007 won by point 2008.

James Hunt: 'Nigel Mansell only has to finish now to win the world championship...'

Murray Walker: 'Now look at that...!!'

Australian GP 1986, final GP of the season, everything coming down to the wire, Rosberg retires, then Mansell's tyre blows, handing the World Championship to Prost.

Ah, but even that was 19 laps from the end, James. This was won with 2 corners to go!

I seem to remember that a race at Monza, black and white days with the banking, with 4 or 5 cars coming out of the last corner all with a chance of winning the race. Won, I think, by Peter Gethin. It used to be the closest result ever.
However, that was just for the race, not the championship.

OK, Australia 1994.

Hill has to beat Schumacher to win Championship. If he doesn't, Schumacher wins, whether he finishes or not.

Schumacher, by his own incompetance goes into the righthand tyrewall (gently), then drives off slowly, weaving left and right across Hill to stop him getting through. Hill is clearly faster. Schu weaves off left, leaving a clear gap on the inside at the next corner. Schu cuts in suddenly and cuts Hill off. Chop.

Schu, having b*ggered his car in the prang, still wins championship.

I remember. I think I know what might have been the outcome had Lewis done something similar to Massa today, though.

When was the F1 Drivers' Championship officially awarded to Lewis? When was the Constructors' Championship officially awarded to Ferrari?

A bit of an anti-climax after such a dramatic race. Do they get a cup? A pat on the back from the Nazi-prostitute addict?

Just seemed a bit strange that TV coverage was given to the third placed driver in the race, but the chamionship awards are forgotten.
Or is it all done at some schintzy do?

Oh, and not quite as I remembered it, but here's the Gethin race.

Don't know Tony. When I was at Silverstone in September to see the conclusion of the Le Mans series races, all of the championship presentations were made after the race winners presentations. It does seem a bit odd that there was no presentation and press conference for Hamilton.

Can't ever remember one televised.

I'm not into F1 and I'm always glad to see a Brit winning something important but this seemed a bit fishy to me.
I'm also not into betting but I believe you can bet on the outcome of one of these races and I recall a year or two back when a driver threw a race to let his team mate win. Doesn't seem right to me.

Best moment of the weekend, Martin Brundle on his 'grid walk' asking Bernie Ecclestone 'So many of these championships seem to go right down to the wire. How do you manage that?'

Bruce

(Oh, by the way, at the Track Cycling World Championships this weekend the UK team won 14 out of 17 golds in the events entered, and in New York Paula Radcliffe won the marathon, blowing away the field. She has only ever lost two marathons in her life. Just in case you missed the other sports news.)

I think what people are forgetting is that Hamilton was 4th and pretty comfortable until the rain came. All of the frontrunners decided to come in and change to intermediates. Glock took his chances and stayed out and that was how he gained the places he did. When it then didn't rain as heavily as it had threatened to it looked as though his gamble might have paid off. He had nothing to lose which was why the rain situation was so dangerous for Hamilton at the end. It just became a lottery and he needed predictability.

It would have been rotten luck if he had lost the championship on that basis.
