Apple Remote, The Airport Express and the SuperNait

Anyone else using Apple "Remote" to control iTunes with their iPod touch or iPhone? It is working very well for me and opens up all sorts of possibilities with equipment placement.

Yep - bought an ipod touch for remote control duties last year and apple have delivered. I've just sold both my squeezeboxes - as the remote app is nicer than the Duet controller. Running the AE into my n-Vi. The Squeezeboxes sound better than the AE but with the cost of the AE being so cheap its tempting to rip one open and have a play with it.

Are you running into the NVI digitally? I don;t really see why it would sound any different if they were both being used in the same way.

Contrary to popular interweb mythology the SB is full of cheap components just like and express.

The remote control app really is something else. I was using something else which required a seperate server to be running on the host computer and it was flaky, this is rock solid.

Gary - yep into the optical input via a Chord Optichord. I agree there should be no difference but the SB3 / Duet were better than the AE. One thing i didn't try at the time was hard wiring the AE as i now have Ethernet from my study to the lounge so i'll give the AE another go like that.

Agree about the App - fantastic and no messing with other servers. I think its really going to give Sonos and logitech a bit of a shock.

James, I have an ipod which I use for my car. At home it's Sonos. IMO a much more versatile all round product, unless your into listening only to your own music. With Sonos, I can play all of my NAS stored music, but also internet radio, music channels, and with a rhapsody subscrription an additional 3M plus songs for $156/yr. The user interface is easy and IMO better than both duet and Apple.

Cool Gary, where have you used the iPod touch remote software with appletv or express?

Having seen the sonos, it is indeed nice kit, very very expensive a bit like bose in that respect.

With an appletv you can stream music, video, music videos, photos. You can rent movies from itunes and purchase mjusic if thats your bag.

With an ipod touch which as we all know has a multitude of other uses it will cost 400 quid. Something sonos will never win on Winker

I've seen and demoed apple TV and I really like it alot. Still a bit in it's infancy with regard to choice which is much less than Sonos in all aspects. Personally for me Sonos sounds better and cost is not really an isssue if you downoad the software to a PC,PDA, or in my case also to a tablet. The cost is really in the hand contrillers, but with a sale I paid only $250 and I roam throughout my home and outside on the patio with this using the "Zone-bridge." So for my home while it may be a bit expensive overall it really is a cost effective solution for multizone use. Since I have distributed audio I can also hook up 2 or more Sonos units and have multiple types of distributed audio to different zones which is much cheaper than the full home kit or a Naim NS box and Netstreams. Not audiophile quality, but very enjoyable for background music.

Agreed, and of course this can be done with other device for far less.

Its not often you get to say apple is cheaper, but where sonos is concerned it is.
