Can someone tell me if there are major differences between the PIC chip versions in the AV2? I am interested in buying a used AV2 from 2004. Will this contain the latest PIC chip?

The latest version of AV2 firmware is:
AV2:- Obtained by pressing and holding OSD button on remote control for 5 seconds. Front panel will display the below string(s) sequentially for latest firmware
AVC0107 (naim PIC revision)
F658 (control DSP revision)
this is in the FAQ section. Ask the seller to tell you what version it is running. If it's running Avc0106, it'll probably be fine also.

The major difference in software was between 4.21 and 6.58 DSP firmware. This added functionality to connect to the DVD5 and obtain AV2 menu's on screen
The latest PIC firmware (AVC0107) is stable and contains fixes for:-
-Bass-mix issue (or the lack of)
-pause/mode bug (when used with DVD5)
-EX/ES format being incorrectly identified
