Copy Protection causing problems?

I got some music this week off some one. I put it in uncompressed format onto the ipod. (I own all of them on record, which I can't be arsed to import)
when I got home I used some freeware to get the tracks off the ipod without trashing my library.
The long and short of it is that I burnt around 9 CDs.
Five of them have been fine, this includes big bud, Smog and Be bop deluxe.
However some refuse to work in the CDi.
I remember that some apple software disks would allow you to copy them to to a hard drive, but would always balls up a CD burn.
Thing is the cds is recognised fine on the mac, but the CDi does not want to know.
So my question is, why is the CDi perfectly happy with some burnt CDrs but not others?
FWIW I have never had troubles with CDRs before, also I tried mixing some playlists, but as long as the problematic album tracks are on the CD, it will not play in the CDi.
Also the burning took place in the same application, in the same day, using the same format with the same blank CDs. The ones that did not work were redone.
Odd eh?
