It's released on February 5. There is a normal CD version and an SACD/DVD. The latter is only £1 more, but if you can't play it......

Hopefully it will arrive in time for my birthday!!

Thanks for the pointer - my first CD order of 2007.

yes, as long as it's a hybrid sacd (which is the case most of the time).

Have you bought any of the live stuff on her web site? Some of it is excellent.

No I haven't though i've got all her 'normal' catalogue. What would you recommend? The joe's pub gig seemed to get a good write up.

Personally I like Portland, Europe 82, LA 92, Joe's Pub and Copenhagen. I would if I was you try and get a copy of her Live at the Wiltern Theatre dvd thoroughly recommended. However these recordings are all bootlegs given to her by fans so the quality ain't the best.

Since you like her so much drop me an email to m.leemacpherson@tesco.net with your address and I will send you a little gift which I think you will like.

This is a review of the disc on a well known web site.

Fans of Rickie Lee Jones and Jesus Christ can decide whether this devotional music is rapturously spiritual or deliriously strange. It sounds like nothing Jones has previously released, or anything characterizable as contemporary Christian. Instead, her voice soars and wobbles through repetitive, stream-of-consciousness incantations over rhythmic throbs and pulses. On "Where I Like It Best," Jones testifies to the power of private prayer (while seeming to cast churchgoers as hypocrites). The feral distortions of "Tried to Be a Man" recall some of the textures (if not the themes) of her former boyfriend Tom Waits, while the acoustic setting of "Donkey Ride" features guitar tunings that might make Sonic Youth wince and "Elvis Cadillac" conjures a singular vision of heaven. At close to eight and a half minutes, the closing "I Was There" seems to follow Van Morrison into the mystic. Some of this music is oddly affecting; much of it is merely odd.

By the way Diccus62 the disc is a hybrid which makes it usually playable on normal cd players. But I would check nearer the time.

I have cds2 hybrids are palyable on mine.

I hope it is not going to be a Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music. The weird album he released after Transformer.

Listen before you buy.

Cheers for that ewemon -

anyone got anything to say about her 'the evening of my best day album'?
Posted on: 02 January 2007 by jim learoyd
Right Wing

As much as I love Rickie "The Evening of my best day" for me was very disapointing. I much prefer her early stuff considering the praise from forum members on this album.

Really confused as to why most people liked this album. It was totally different to all the others!!

Nah. It's a great album. It takes time.

I agree with hungryhalibut it just takes time to get into it. I always thought that her later stuff had more to do with the rhythmic feel of the music.

The Ghostyhead album took me ages to get into.

There is a track from the new album on the following link along with a record review of the album.

It's the Circle in the Sand track.

Hi Nigel

It arrived at 1.30. Finished setting it up at 4.30. Must say it took some doing. Had my tea at 5.00. Went to work at 5.30,(I am on nights tonight) and I am tired already. Very busy day.

However even though I powered down all the kit even from cold Wow!! I can't wait for it to settle down in this next week or so. I have only played 2 tracks because I had no time.

I will let you know how I go on in the next few days. I must say it looks a little bit better than the old sound org tables!!

I had a first full listen to the new one last night and there is some great stuff on this album. Much more guitar orientated and 'lo-fi' in presentation than usual.

A few standout tracks already - will give it a second blast tonight and report back tmrw.

Ok, after three listens I love it. A no-brainer for Rickie fans.

The track 'Donkey ride' sounds like something off the last Sctt Walker album so be warned. There is also a bit of a Velvet Underground thing going on with a few of the tracks.

Mostly the album is simple, heartfelt and warm.

Lovely. Smile
