A question about volts vs. amps?

Posted by: jimj on 02 March 2004

I have been wondering for some time if there is any significant difference between power outputs in different brands as to the makeup of voltage and ampheres?
I remember, from the small amount of electronics education that I have not used for many years that:
1. Power (watts) = Voltage x Current (amps.)
So, you could produce a rating of 100 watts power by using 1 volt at 100 amps. or 100 volts at 1 amp.

2. Speaker coils respond to changes in current and not voltage.

Is there any standard for the power output volts, amps. mix?
Do manufacturers play with a mix in order to produce good looking specifications, as they might have done in lower-end equipment many years ago?

Since I have never seen this question answered, I assume it was answered on a day that I missed school. I'd really like to know.
Thanks.
