DAB radios-anyone got a REVO?

Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 07 June 2007

Our Pure Oasis DAB radio has died, one month after the warranty expired (Grrr). Pure's service agent quote £50 minimum repair.

It gets used as a kitchen and garden radio so we really want a replacement that sounds good (obviously) has an iPod dock, is rechargeable and fairly robust/splashproof.

Somewhat unimpressed by the Pure dying on us I'd prefer another make.

Anyone got one of these Revo DAB's? The Pico looks a perfect model but I wonder if it sounds good.

Anyone suggest another make/model? £150 or less please folks.

Sorry to iterate, but DAB is overpriced crap shit, despite Pure occasionally having nice DUCKS to advertise.

Cheaper FM etc is better.

DAB will soon be replaced by Apple AAC.

Cable or Freeview are cheaper/better for digital radio (PLEASE tell me how great Sky satellite sounds...).

I agree that usually digital radio 'has more choice' - usually of shit, apart from some BBC7 radio-repeats/BBC Radio 4 sports sound.

Good luck in a cheap quality/preferably 3-5 year warranty replacement.

We are hopefully going to try out a Vito dab radio this week. It's made by a team of blokes from Ruark and hopefully sounds as good as a Tivoli for less than £160.

Freeview radio sounds horrible through our TV system and isn't exactly portable.

Chumpy

We've had, and enjoyed, DAB for several years at home. We cannot receive Freeview or Cable. The stations we've enjoyed are not on FM. Our Pure radio gave far better quality than FM. So I think I disagree with almost every word of your post!

The Vita looked very nice and I was tempted but it is mains only an the radio gets used in the garden etc. Anyway the Revo arrived today so I'll report back!

Heading back to Revo unfortunately.

A nice neat device but the DAB reception was poor, only usable in one part of the house! It lacked an external aerial port and seems to be much less sensitive then the Pure we broke. When it did work the sound quality was fairly good although not stunning.

Vita have been extremely helpful, offering to modify a unit FOC with an F type aerial connector so I can add an external one if needed. It is winging it's way shortly!

Thanks Bruce.
We're off to listen to one tonight while we're at Bluewater. Hopefully there'll be something there for us.

Here's a thing.

Revo responding to an email. 'If you buy direct from us we'll offer a full refund if reception inadequate'

Vita 'Refund not a problem but we'll fit an accessory aerial connector FOC for you to try that too'

Roberts dealer in town. 'Borrow one for the weekend and let us know if it works alright'.

Pure 'No way could we offer a refund if reception is poor, we are not responsible for your local coverage'.

Had a look at the Revo models in John lewis last night and we didn't like the build quality and there was no reception at all!
So we've decided to order a Vito off the JL website and send it back if we don't like it. Just a shame there were no Vitos in the shop.
