CD Case Nodes

Those annoying little nodes that hold the sleeves in end up ruining them! Some of mine have the bar like stoppers which are perfect. Why have CD case manufacturers not realised this yet?

Do you lot have annoying little rounded dents in the edge of your booklets?

Nope, you're not alone, these really annoy me too. Some cases (and some booklets) seem to suffer far more than others.

And no, I have no idea why they bother - I suppose life would be too easy otherwise. At least they've started making those cellophane wrappers easier to get into (with those tear strips - except a recent effort from hmv where they'd taped round the security magnet, and the strip - it was an annoying 5 minutes getting into that disc Red Face )

Beautiful South 0898 booklet has to be the thickest ever and I can't believe there's a copy around which isn't ruined by the "nodes". In fact how did they pack them in the factory without ruining most of them??

Oh and that Special edition of Pulp's 'Different Class' with the 12 interchangeable covers is pretty difficult not to cut to pieces when pulling in and out. Frown

The Pink Floyd CD remasters (around 94/95) left off the 'outside' case nodes, making the booklet extraction much easier.

A small but nice touch.

John,

I knew I had some discs like that (I just couldn't find them when I looked the other night). I might have known it would be pink floyd that did something like that.

I bet it's not as thick as the one for "Tourism" by Roxette (shh - it's not THAT bad an album really!)...

I noticed that by 1992 (when I went there) the US were using the long bits exclusively, but they still use those damn nodes over here even on brand new CDs. The trays that the discs sit in are more crappy these days too - I have some original 1983-4 CD cases that have a single "Compact Disc Digital Audio" logo on the top-right (all modern trays have the two, so they look correct in double CD cases) where the little prongs that hold the disc in place are still intact and strong. Most modern ones seem to break almost immediately, or be broken when bought.

As for HMV - simply open the case from the hinges (carefully!), then peel both halves apart. Job done.
