Help with Scandinavian female folk singer needed...

Posted by: sjust on 09 September 2006

OK, this is going to be tough, folks...

I heard her on the car radio and was blown away. And, I was sure, I wouldn't remember a THING at home: Neither her name, nor the song title. And, what can I say: I was right ! I do remember the tone of her voice (which was beautiful, but impossible to explain), but nothing else. Well, almost:

- Her last name was 2 syllables (like Ahden, Arden, Amen, something of that kind)
- The song title was something like “homage to …” or “love letter to …” or “prayer to …” with a name., but the name wasn’t a human. Instead it was her guitar
- Very light company (couple of instruments, playing folk like music, her voice definitely being the most important part
- I think she sang In English
- Not one of the recent Jazz singers (on ACT label), I’m pretty sure.
- When I say Scandinavian (that I’m sure), I think she was Norwegian, but could as well been Danish.

OK, I don’t expect somebody to solve this puzzle, but if you could come up with some Scandinavian singers names, I might recognize her.

Please, help !!!

Cheers
Stefan

Stefan - many radio stations have web sites where they show their playlists. Try that maybe?

My best guess is Sissel Kjyrkebo, even if the name doesn´t match.

Susi Hyldgaard would be a wild guess - which station was it?

Wild guess 2. Rebekka Backken or Stina Nordenstam or Sidel Endresen. Good Luck....

Hi Stefan,

Could it be Lisa Ekdahl?

She's got a special, childish voice, and sings mostly in English.

Best Regards
Fredrik

Radka Toneff? Norwegian, died 1982, unusual haunting(!) voice.

Radio and enlish lyrics makes me think Eurovision Song Contest ... Norway had Christine Guldbrandsen with folk-type backing band.

The only other ones I know from norway is Sissel (alreday mentioned) and Ane Bruun.

Yes Ane's very good, although I have never "clicked" with her records. I've seen her live on a couple of occasions and on stage she's really good. Hmm... maybe I should give her records another try?
