iTunes query

Hi,

Can anyone advise me on moving iTunes rips/downlads to another machine/copy of iTunes?

I have an iMac with iTunes on the Mac partition and a few (very few really) CD rips and a couple of downloads from the iTunes store.

I got an iPod touch for xmas and want to sync it with iTunes on my PC partition on my mac. Problem is that i don't seem to be able to copy the music files from the mac partition to the PC partition, or indeed, to my external hard drive... I get a message which say's it's not allowed, or words to that effect.

Any ideas on how i can copy and paste these files into the folder my PC iTunes uses?

For info, whilst the mac can see the PC partition (boot camp), the PC can't see the mac partition.

Cheers,

Phil

The bootcamp partition of your mac is in NFTS file system (PC)

A mac can read this partition but cannot write to it.

Furthermore a PC won't even see a mac formatted drive.

Your simplest option is an external harddrive or NAS. if you have a usb harddrive or stick make sure its formatted as fat 32 (the usually are) copy the music onto it and boot into the other system and copy back off.

As for your purchased music you re download that on the PC once you have logged into your itunes account, you will not be able to move them very easily from your current mac partition

Your final option is to transfer all the music to the ipod and use some softwares available on the internet to get the music back off the ipod onto the PC side.

As i say though a usb drive is the easiest option by far

Thanks Gary,

I've finally got there. Realised that both the partition and my external Seagate drive were NTFS so couldn't be written to (initially thought it was a DRM issue) so used another WD passport USB drive to copy the files to. Have managed to get them all on my Seagate drive now and PC iTunes is happy (had to drop in my password for downloaded stuff).

Was most concerned about the Ricky Gervais podcasts i'd downloaded a while back!

Cheers,

Phil

Podcasts seem to hang around the itunes store indefinitely so you can always re download them

FYI, I use NTFS-3G / MacFUSE when having to write to NTFS partitions from OSX.

Indeed,

And there is MAC drive which will enable you to read the appls partition if wanted.
