Lloyd Cole

I saw Lloyd Cole yesterday evening at the Sheffield Memorial Hall (fantastic intimate venue by the way) and would recommend that all fans catch him where they can. This is a solo tour (just him and a guitar) and it showcases what a fantastic voice he still has. I think his records never really highlighted what a fantastic singer he is. On the downside the concert also illustrated how little his music has changed and moved forward over years!

Woodface - can you explain this more fully to me, as I am not so familiar with the full range of his work. I have "Easy Pieces" (which I love) and "Don't Get Weird On Me, Babe" (which is ok when I'm in the mood for it, but when I'm in that mood I usually put on Michael Penn or Matthew Sweet instead).

Separated by 5 or 6 years I think, these two discs are really really different, to my ears anyway. Not sure if it was moving forward or sideways, but it sounds like something happened somewhere. Smile

I have the Commotions Albums and most of the solo stuff (Don't get wierd on me.. is the best)but with Lloyd Cole it is generally subject matter that has remained constant. The same literary references, word play etc. He admitted at the concert that he's been writing about mid-life crisis since he was 26!

I saw him last week in Nottingham and agree with Jay. Great voice, very much understated.

I like all his albums but reckon that "Rattlesnakes" showcases his singing prowess brilliantly.

I agree with Steve B - rattlesnakes is by far his best LP.
