Hi Res Download of Love Over Gold or DSotM
Posted by: HuwJ on 05 September 2010
Are there hi-res versions of either album available for download?
Apart from Naim, Linn and HDTracks, is there anywhere you can get downloads of more mainstream artists? I can only seem to find torrent sites when I search.

There probably will be to go with the SACDs and DVD-As and MiniDiscs and .... and I bet they do Coldplay and Take That and that bloke out of the Bill, Stong I think he's called, and Frank Sinatra and the baldy drummer bloke who was in Genesis too.quote:Are there hi-res versions of either album available for download?
It does make it difficult to get excited about a new format ... some times I think the music world is in dire straits, but then I listen to a plain old CD and find it's a recording of Karine Polwart and realise things are not always as bad as they seem.
I don't dislike DSotM, but I can't get excited about yet another version of it - the old vinyl version does me, though I seldom play it as I think I know every note by heart.
I don't have a copy of the other recording you mention - perhaps I'm the only person who doesn't.

dont you need a SACD player for that format ?

Huw get yourself a universal player and hunt out some SACDs and DVD-As - you can convert both to hi-res uploads to your computer if you wish - SACD is a bit awkward, but another forum member explained to me how to do it.
I think hi-res music is not for the mainstream or much of the music I like - though I've found some great Kinks and CCR albums on SACD.

My aim is to move to file based music through the nDAC. What I'm looking for is a high resolution downloads of an album that I can use as a reference point and that I actually don't mind listening to.
I only mention those two albums because they seem to have been released in about every format available.
Much of what I have seen in hi-res is by obscure artists or is classical - which does not interest me.

The new music business model may deliver what you want but not for old big label stuff that needs a gazillion units to turn a profit.
Go here

and get the ablum digitised on a top system at 24/192. That will give you a great reference that will reveal just how bad your CDs sound compared to how they should sound.
