Martin Stephenson and the Daintees - Help

Posted by: colin thomas on 10 September 2002

My CD of 'Salutation Road' is skipping on one track, any ideas where I can get a new copy. Have tried Amazon and local shops but it's out of print.

Thanks,

Colin

errr Colin, should I point out that help was in fact by four lads from liverpool?

On a more serious note, the album you mention has been on my "to buy" list for many years now. Must 'getaroundtuit'.

Just been advised it's on the way, cost $15.50, well worth it.

Rico,

Yeah forget about them, now you mention it they made a few well known records didn't they but usually flawed as far as I'm concerned because I never liked Ringo's numbers nor some of McCartneys. Was always a Stones fan first so I'm biased!

Colin, our tastes may be closer than we realise. I've never admitted this before in public but here goes: I have never owned a B*****s record. I don't actually ever recall playing one of their tracks by choice on any sound system - but doubtless I've just forgotten doing so. Alas I cannot claim never to have sung along to one of their tunes....still, as you can gather, I'm not a fan and never have been.

Young folk of my kids' generation find this very puzzling. My stock reply is that back in the days when the only other choice was the Stones (and where you stood was absolutely all that mattered), I was resolutely behind Mick & Co. So there you go.

But back to MS & The Ds - hope you're enjoying your replacement copy of Salutation Road by now, or will be soon. I also have Gladsome, Humour & Blue (on vinyl), The Boy's Heart and Sweet Misdemeanour, all of which are fine albums. Furthermore I used to have Boat To Bolivia with that choice reggae title track, but for some inexplicable reason sold it years ago. Anyway, are there any others you would recommend?

Ciao

Jim,

I've also got 'yogi in my house' and 'lilac tree' but wouldn't recommend them. There are a few good numbers scattered over the 2 Cds (Of the two I prefer Lilac Tree) but too much filler. Get another copy of 'Boat to Bolivia' still one of his best. Out of interest I saw Martin perform at a small club in Shrewsbury a couple of years ago and he was excellent.

I have to admit to owning 'Revolver', 'Sgt Pepper' and the 'Blue Album' by the way. If you can't beat'em!

Cheers

All this talk about MS reminded me I'd seen a vinyl copy of Salutation Road months ago in a local 2/h shop. Naturally I was suddenly seized by a desperate need to know if it was still there so off I sped into town yesterday lunchtime - and yes! still unsold and now only $5 (that's tiny Kiwi dollars folks).

The cover's slightly shopworn but the record is absolutely mint. I sat down to listen to it last night and was just blown away - what a brilliant album, every track is a peach!

Aaaaahhhh vinyl......

This thread has re-kindled my interest in MS&tD, I only had a copy of my favourite album, Gladsome, Humour & Blue on cassette. I bought it when on holiday years ago, when I had nought but a walkman with me.

So on Saturday I called into one of the two local 2nd hand record shops (within a 90 second walk of my house), and the proprietor happily obliged with a mint copy for 4 GBP.

Doncha just love these places?

Saluation Road next, if I can find it.

Will.
