New Mains Cable for CD3.5

Posted by: Captain-Kopter on 14 December 2003

Simple question for the techies amongst you.

My CD3.5 has a straight through (?) mains cable.

Would I benefit from snipping that off near the unit, fitting a new female (kettle type) socket and then plugging in a new mains cable?

Or can I save myself the cash?

I think you'd be better off buying a Hi-Cap.

I did this with my 3.5 and found I got better separation, detail and PRaT. I used a Kimber hi-current powercord, but there are others available.

But for ever one person like me saying 'improvement' you'll get another saying the opposite...

Also prowla is right, insomuch as getting a hi-cap (or a flat-cap for that matter) will ramp up the sound somewhat. I again tried both with my 3.5...

What happens if you snip off the attached mains cord and then find yourself short-changed on the aftermarket cords? Attach it back again?

Why the thought? Are you unhappy with the 3-5? Smile

Thanks for the help.

No I'm not unhappy with my 3.5 I think its excellent. However, in the search for hi-fi Nirvana....

I'd love a hi-cap but if the choice is £30 for a reasonable power cable or £500 for a 2nd hand hi-cap I'll take the cable intil the tax man gives me a break.
