Balance Control Discovery?

Posted by: garyi on 27 February 2002

Listening to the simpsons yesterday and today I notice when some one walks off the screen talking they walk to the right but the sound moves to the left!

Now when I turn the balance fully to the left the sound goes fully to the left, should the balance be turned right for the sound to move left?

did that make any sense?

Yes, that makes sense.

Your left and right channel connections for TV sound are switched somewhere between the Video unit and the preamp, hence the channel error.

But the connections after the preamp balance control to the speakers are correct (or switched multiple times - once reversing, then a second time correcting). So the balance control works as expected.

(As DIN and burndy connections do not allow for a channel switch, you only have the speaker connections at the amp to worry about, and that only allows for a single switch and so must be OK.)

The simple DIN plug shows its superiority again.

Sounds like you have the tv audio channel plugged in the wrong way round.

Thanks guys an obvious and simple solution, alas whilst these little sounds are happening you don't have time to switch them!

I simply assumed that if you put the plugs in the wrong way round then the balance would work wrong, how confusing/stupid!
