Where Have All the Mono Blocs Gone?

When reading the enthusiastic essays on 135s I can’t help but realize that there is no mono bloc any more in today’s Naim’s sortiment. Or am I wrong?

Well there is the NAPV145 or whatever they call it. It's aimed at the home cinema market.

But given that it's new, and very expensive it must be heaps better than the 135.

i kind of also wish there was a monoblock in the new line up, but when i think about it a little -- this would perhaps be very difficult to position in the mkt. if we assume a price of £2250, or thereabouts, then 2 of these will cost £4500, which is pretty close to the nap300.

yeh, i have also heard about the napv145 -- its been mooted as direct replacement of the 135 (did i read this somewhere in naim's blurb?) -- but i dont sense a big push from naim, and the home cinema functionality kind of confuses things a bit.

its interesting that the napv145 is only £1195. there is an upgrade that is actually cheaper than the old 135 new, or even the old 250, or the new 250, or in fact, a second hand 135...

for the time being i am focussing on old 135's, unless home dem of nap300 passive does all the things that my active system does, and then some...

enjoy...

Yes, it’s very interesting. Why we don’t read reports on them?

Ken,

the NAPV145 lists for about £1,750, I believe. I think the NAP135 was £1,910 before it was discontinued.

Paul Darwin told me at the show that the 135 is simply better than the 145.

cheers, Martin
