NAC 52

Posted by: Mick P on 19 October 2001

Gentlemen

I have just taken delivery of a NAC 52 to replace the 82 and I will give you a run down of its performance in a few days when it has had chance to warm up. Its been connected up for just over an hour and it sounds a bit flat at present but that is to be expected.

I promise not to bore you too much by waxing lyrical.

Regards

Mick

Don't bother for about six weeks. You won't really hear what it can do for that long, and maybe longer.

Mick,

Congratulations. Wait for something that opens up a new world. Works really well with the CDS as well.

Self-described grumpy old gits don't need congratulations, but they do need CDS2s.

The 52 takes eight years to warm up properly. I hope you're still around.

If it makes your Sarah Brightman records sound great , send it back as there's obviously something wrong with it.

Every night, I place my 52 on a pillow of finest silk, to let it breathe after a hard day on the brittle Mana rack. This relaxes the sound and helps the 52's adorable little feet to recover their resliency. Twice each week, I anoint those feet with oil. Naturally I use only double virgin olive, because the impurities in others add a notable looseness to the upper mid-bass.
I mean, isn't it obvious?

I'm not sure if there's irony in your post or not.

If I had written it there wouldn't be.

Mick,

hope you've got a good cup of cocoa to hand.

Sounds like you're going to need it.

cheers, Martin

I got home tonight at 5.30pm.......the house was empty, so I thought sod the bloody forum, lets listen to some music instead.

I slapped on the Gladiator as requested by john, took a glass of Talisker (Ok I am boozing early tonight)and listened to the 2 month old CDS2 and 1 week old 52.

I have made three good decisions here, one was to drink the whiskey, second was to buy the 52 and third was to play the Gladiator.

The 52 is now ahead of the 82 and the music is so clear and detailed and emotional. You have to hear it to believe it. The Gladiator has a lot of low volume drums and guitars which just seem so real its unbelieveable. This is music as it should be.

The CD finished and Mrs Mick came home and that was the end of my magic hour.

My beloved wife is preparing a concotion of pasta and garlic/tomato source with a bottle of Chianti and she seems decidedly in a romantic mood, so more music tonight is looking rather unlikely.

To conclude, the 52 is sounding good and I will come back next week for another progress report.

As Vuk - the resident psychologist - is unable to post, I will have to fill the void in this instance the best I can.

Surely 'source' instead of 'sauce' is a Freudian slip induced by too much time fiddling with kit and posting on the forum big grin

Hey Greg,

I think the slip had more to do with the Talisker.

Mick. Tired of Oban? tw

Oi Mick

what's this about "The Gladiator"? You're not getting Mrs Mick to dress up all militarily again, are you?

Might I suggest Lagavullin Distilers edition.

not consuming much malt at the mo - and was diturbed to try NZ-brewed Kilkenny tonight... disappointing. At least the Guinness down here is better than that of Park Royal. frown

I have been away up north for the last 48 hours and got back home at 8.30 this evening totally knackered. Mrs Mick is attending one of her floral display classes, so I slapped on the Naim sampler no 2 just to see how the 52 was progressing after being 19 days old.

It seemed to slip back a bit last weekend but tonight it has moved forward again.

The clarity is clearer, the bass is deeper and the music is more musical. I have not been on the whisky tonight as I rather overdone it at a good restaurant in Manchester last night.

Gentlemen the CDS11/52 combination is coming along nicely and I suggest you treat yourself to this kit. The music has just flowed this evening and I am now about to retire to bed a very tired but happy chap.

Request that your wife adds a dash of paprika to that sauce, after about half an hour it will really deepen the flavour.

Mr Rizzo

We have a saying in England....when in Rome do as the Romans do......or to put it anotherway, when in an English forum, speak bloody English.

I attended a function last night and returned home at 11.30pm.

I played an Inspector Morse CD for a period of 30 minutes whilst consuming a glass of Oban.

The 52 is steadily improving in the mid range and the clarity is superb. It plays music in an unbelieveable way.

This has been an excellent purchase and may I suggest a two plan course of action for you.

1. Buy yourself a CDS11/52/135 set up...you will not regret it.

2. Try to copy my style of prose, your boss will be most impressed.

This explains the 52's relapse.

I said the clarity is superb.

Or are you referring to another post.

I was referring to the second post on this page (which is one of your posts). Don't worry, occurrences like that occur with all of us wink

Madam

You are indeed correct, the bass was bassier. I therefore recommend you buy a CDS11/52 which will provide you with many evenings of pleasure.

To Miss Jones

I really do hope you get your evenings of pleasure, if you do not buy the Naim, try a glass of malt instead. I find that very enjoyable.

To the rest of you

Gentlemen

I arose this morning at 6.30am and switched on the wireless (NAT05) and it sounded a lot better than it has ever done before. Obviously the 26 day old 52 has shot up a notch.

This evening I have just finished listening to a Yanni CD and yes it is sounding better than ever before.

The pianos sounded, well pianoy and the drums just very very drummy. The vocals were electric in the scale and realism and I could spend all day listening to this.

This is been an excellent purchase and you all should make an effort to buy the CDS11/52 combination. I should have done this years ago.

The SBL's sounded so full of music and it was just as if the piano was being played in the room.

I am a very happy chap.

Regards

Hi Mick,

Great to hear it's all coming together for you. I am in the same boat, as one who has recently discovered the delights of a state-of-the-art preamp (mine is a DNM, but they are similarly excellent to your 52).

If someone had said to me a year ago that a preamp made this much difference, I'd have laughed. It just goes to show that you live and learn...

All the best,

Sammy,

The answer to your question is that Mick wears a bra, panties and high heels while he is listening; and doesn't want his real demeanor to show... razz

OK OK...bad visual.
