One for the dentists.........

Posted by: long-time-dead on 25 May 2005

Maybe a long shot but I cannot find the information on the internet......

My wife's dentist has left the practice that she attends and has moved to another.

Presumably, his contract included a "non-poaching" agreement as we received a letter advising us of his departure and that he wasn't allowed to treat his patients for the next 2 years.

She has been a patient since a young girl and has fantastic teeth.

I need to find out where he went. Obviously, the practice are not divulging the information but there must be a list somewhere with the details.

Anybody help ?

If I were your dentist I'd be inclined to speak to a lawyer about unreasonable restraint of trade.

Isn't there a Register of Dentists or some such?

That's exactly what I was looking for !!!!

We have no issue with the practice as my Dentist is still there and providing excellent service.

My dentist has just announced his retirement. Along with that letter came another from the LHA informing me the practice had been unsuccessful in recruiting a replacement so we were being released from the practice books.
On top of this I'm informed there are no dentists taking on National Health patients in the four surrounding counties.

Maybe I should ask for a rebate on my NI contributions!

You could try asking your local Primary Care Trust

Such agreements are un-enforceable I believe, they probably represent 'restraint of trade'. We recently excluded a similar clause from our Practice Agreement after legal advice. He probably has a 'gentlemans agreement' not to poach, an this may not be binding. Alternatively he has been suspended for 2 years for malpractice!

I assume she was registered Privately. In which case why not just look in the Yellow pages?

NHS Direct 0845 46 47 will tell you which local practices accept NHS patients BTW.

As has been suggested, your local Primary Care Trust will supply you with a list of all the dentists registered in your area.
