£1000 to spend, new CD5 or secondhand???

Posted by: CraigP on 14 January 2003

With reference to my previous post, i currently am demoing a Naim CD 5, and as suggested over my NAD not only does it give me the extra depth and base i was looking for, its just overall so much better that i now going to definately get a naim cd player, being very new to Naim and not really knowing the range (as well as trying to spend as little money as possible), will i be better off getting the brand new CD5, or at around that price or less, are there any better things i could get 2nd hand at that price.

I would appreciate peoples thoughts

Thanks

I have the CD 5 and think it's great. However I would also look into getting a CDX S/H. about the same price. tho few are on the market right now, mabe more this spring as upgraditis sets in.

You could probably consider a CD2.

I bought one recently for around 800£ (2000can$) and am delighted with it. It is probably no CDX but sounds better than a 3 or 3.5 and, in my opinion than a CD5.

I haven't listened much to the CDX so I can't compare (any opinion out there?).

my 2cents...
